Maurice Legrand, a cashier, is married to Adele, a dreadful woman. He meets Lucienne, "Lulu," by chance and marries her. He believes he has finally found love, but Lulu is nothing more than a streetwalker who is madly in love with her pimp, Dede. She accepts Legrand solely to meet Dede's financial needs.
