Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins are longtime cowhands, working whatever ranch job their way, but"nothing they can't do out of a horse." Their lives are broken up between weeks on the scope and the occasional trip. While Chet has fallen under the spell monte has a romance with prostitute Martine Bernard. Camaraderie and rivalry with all one cowboys fill until one Shorty Austin, of their hands, loses his job also has associated with murdering and rustling.
