He's told by the agency that the telepathy has been a negative result of Widmann's Disease, and he will end up insane punctually and sooner or later die from the ailment. But, Lazarus matches a woman with similar powers (Taryn Manning) that Doesn't Have some Indication of this disorder, launching Lazarus to confront the lies he has been told
