Cezanne and I

They loved one another with the passion of adolescent males of thirteen years old. They were united by everything: defiance and inquisitiveness, optimism and uncertainty, girls and aspirations of greatness. Emile lived in affluence as Paul amassed wealth. They participated in activities such as skinny dipping, consuming absinthe, and going without food in order to later overindulge in food. During the day, he drew caricatures of the models, and at night, he cooed over them... At this point in their lives, Paul is a painter, while Emile is a writer. Paul is no longer in the position to share in the glory. But Emile has everything a man could want: celebrity, money, and the ideal wife, who Paul used to love. They are critical of one another while also expressing admiration for one another and engaging in debate. They go years without speaking to one another but eventually reconnect, just like a couple who cannot quit loving one other.
