Ironweed

Albany, New York, Halloween, 1938. Francis Phelan and Helen Archer are all bumsback in their arrival city. She was a singer on the radio, he a significant league pitcher. Death surrounds them a pal has cancer, and he and the grave of his baby son whom he fell digs graves in the Peninsula and visit. Dreams of his past haunt himincluding ghosts of 2 men he murdered. Out drinking, Helen attempts to sing in a bar. Next day, Fran meets a grandson and visits with his wife and kiddies. He could stay, but decides it isn't due to him personally. Helen captures their things out of storage and finds out an hotel. Amidst dereliction and their mistakes, the movie investigates their code of fairness and loyalty.
