Adapted from the 1951 nonfiction account by psycho-analyst Georges Devereux,"Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian," the film follows the real story of Picard (Del Toro), a Plains Indian of the Blackfeet state, since he returns from WWII and starts experiencing Allergic symptoms briefly afterwards. He travels to the famed cold temperatures Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, where he meets Devereux (Amalric), thus beginning a skilled and personalized friendship led by compassion and knowledge of Native American culture.
