After spending his adolescent in and out of foster care, Leon goes home to care for his alcoholic mother and adjust to life as an adult after adolescence spent in and out of foster care. Leon takes consolation in the boxing ring after becoming disillusioned with his lack of educational opportunities and gloomy financial prospects. The rebellious and attractive Twiggy, who is living in abandoned buildings to get away from her family's heartless riches, is introduced to him shortly thereafter. As riots erupt in the streets and police and protesters round Leon's area, he must decide whether to fight alongside his friends or seek a new life with his girlfriend Twiggy.
