Piñero

"Piero" chronicles the explosive life of a Latino legend, gay poet-playwright-actor Miguel Piero, whose urban poetry is widely regarded as the forerunner of rap and hip-hop. After serving time in a hard-core Sing-Sing jail for petty thefts and drug selling, Piero channeled his prison experiences into the 1974 Tony-nominated drama Short Eyes. The subsequent celebrity and fame were too much for the Latino bad-boy genius, who retired to New York City's seedier neighborhoods.
