The North Star

The North Star is the story of Benjamin "Big Ben" Jones and Moses Hopkins, two slaves who escaped from a plantation in Virginia in 1849 and made their way to Buckingham, Pennsylvania, where they were freed and lived as free men. Big Ben is 6 feet 10 inches tall and has a record reward for his safe return. Every slave hunter on the east coast wants to get him. People on the Underground Railroad show them kindness that they didn't expect to see. These experiences will change Ben and Moses for good and for bad. People from history, like Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman, meet Ben and Moses at Mt. Gilead Church on Buckingham Mountain. Ben and Moses get to live as free men for a while.
