The Sweeney
The Sweeney is also a division of the Metropolitan Police leading to handling robbery, just a 1970s British television police drama emphasizing two associates of the Flying Squad and violent crime in London. The programme's title derives from Sweeney Todd, which will be Cockney rhyming slang for"Flying Squad".
The programme was shot on 16mm film by the film branch of Thames Television. It originally aired on ITV between 2 January 1975 and also 28 December 1978 in the weekday slot together using showings at exactly the same time prior to the 1980s. It starred John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan, and Dennis Waterman as his partner Detective Sergeant George Carter. Such was its prevalence in the UK it spawned two theatrically released feature picture spin offs! and Sweeney 2.
The show aired for the Flying Squad within a stage. From the late 1970 s , the Flying Squad was censured to be included with police corruption bribery and connections with the fraternity. Unlike the high standards seen from the literary Sweeney, the commander of the Flying Squad, Detective Chief Superintendent Kenneth Drury was convicted of five counts of corruption and jailed for eight years on 7. An internal evaluation was launched to pinpoint out corruption. A further 1-2 officers were convicted and others resigned.
