The World at War
A documentary series on British television called The World at War chronicles the events of the Second World War over the course of its 26 episodes. With a total expenditure of £900,000, it was the most costly television series ever produced when it was finally finished in 1973. It features a score that was composed by Carl Davis and was produced by Jeremy Isaacs, while Laurence Olivier provided the narration for it. In 1973, Mark Arnold-Forster published his book titled The World at War, which served as a companion piece to the television series of the same name. The World at War has been the subject of praise ever since production was finished, and it is today considered to be a watershed moment in the history of British television. Following the time of its completion, and at a period when many people's memories of the Second World War were still relatively recent, the producer Jeremy Isaacs was regarded as being ahead of his time in revitalizing studies of military history. The series concentrated, among other things, on portrayal of the catastrophic human realities of the struggle; how life and death affected soldiers, sailors, and airmen, civilians, the tragic victims of tyranny, and concentration camp inmates during the course of the war years.
